(31th dec2011) New Year's Eve Worship Sermon "You will be a blessing"

 

You will be a blessing (Genesis 12:2~3)

 

Now, our Lord gives us a blessing of his words faced to 2012; " YOU WILL BE A BLESSING". Following the text of a Korean version Bible, you will be an origin of blessings. I really want you to receive this word by sincere faith.

This word is given to a father of faith, Abraham. Also he perfectly received the blessing. For achieving the blessing to us, we have to know who Abraham was.

See the 2nd verse:"I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing."

He had a great blessing from God; 1) By him, there will be a lot of descendants in this world. So from his roots, they will be the greatest people. As all parents know, they wish their children grow up in the perfect circumstance, with good character, and then make a happy family with excellent partners. Why you need money? It is to offer more comfortable, more stable, and much better grounds for your children. Your children is your other-self in this world. It is the greatest blessing that progeny is thriving. Like this blessing God promised it to Abraham.

2) God gives him a blessing "making his name great" The proverb says "Tiger is killed, leaving the leather; Leave the name of a person dying". Yes! it is! When you go to graveyards, you can easily see many graves written by many names. What is the great blessing to people. By people in the present and future, my name will be remembered.

By the both blessing, we can know that Abraham received the most perfect blessings before and after death.

Why did he receive this perfect blessing? See the third verse: "I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you"

Abraham is a child of God. God is his father. Therefore, God had been with him, and had a interrelationship with him. So, to those who love or had a good relationship with Abraham, God gives them blessing, however to those who torment him God gives them curse. Please believe in the fact; God is our father and mother. When someone says your son is very cute, I am very pleased; but when some kids are cruel to him, I am very upset.

So, we have to be an origin of blessing because of our parents, God. The blessing is not ceasing; Look at the following texts

12:2 "...all peoples on earth will be blessed through you"

18:18 "Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him."

22:18 "and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me."

The true blessing is to influence on the others; families, neighbours, and the others in the world. By yourself, you are able to achieve this blessing? Absolutely no! only by God, we can do it: "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward. " (Genesis 15:1)

By his power, we can get out of the darkness of Satan. By the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, we can be saved and get victories as children of the Lord. Owing to the grace of God, we can be a blessing.

What is the secret of Abraham's blessing from God? "By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going"(Hebrews 11:8) The secret is the faith of believing God as being his father. Under any sufferings and pains, he truly believed in God who became his shield and great reward. Therefore, Bible says "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1)

Now we face to new year 2012! How do you live for this year? Please be a blessing of God. By the faith, I hope you enjoy his blessings and share it to the others.
