I desire mercy not sacrifice

Matthew 12:1~8

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What is to keep the Sabbath? It is the fourth of the Ten Commandments. In the text, Exodus 31:4, If someone breaks, it would put him or her to the death. Why it happens? the Sabbath is a holy day. During six days, people are working hard but in the one day, they should think and worship God only. But, Pharisees are very enthusiastic not keeping real meaning of the Sabbath but observing forbidden lists of the law letter by letter.

When we read vers. 1~2 in the text, we can found the fact that the act of the disciples is not wrong in the law, which they were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them in the grainfields. According to Deuteronomy 23:25 "If you enter your neighbor's grainfield, you may pick kernels with your hands, but you must not put a sickle to his standing grain." This is for the poor in God's love. Although they did not have any big trouble, why pharisees blamed them? The reason is, it is very ridiculous, that they ate grains on THE SABBATH".

They intended to pick on Jesus' saying. He knew it, so he responded to them, the word by word.

Reading the text, 3~5. there are two examples; 1) a story of David: when David hid his head from the King Saul with his friends, they went to meet Ahimelech the priest. In his house, he had only holy five loaves of bread. He gave David and his friends. 2) Priests must keep the Sabbath, however, in the course of holy sacrifice, they have to work like bleeding lambs, dove and so forth.

Why did Jesus present two examples? the answer is shown as Mark 2:27~28

"The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."

This means that we have to enjoy real freedom of the truth apart from forbidden lists of the law.

Now, why you could come to here, worship place? because of your habit in your tradition? because of your curse in Satan's playing? because of begging for only earning money?

"For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings." Hosea 6:6

I desire you to know God almighty who manages your life, Jesus Christ who love you even bleeding in the Cross, and Holy Spirit who wants to help and protect you.

This is the word of the Lord. YOU RECEIVE THIS AND ACT IN YOUR LIFE.
